Soil, water conservation district plans open house
The Union County Soil and Water Conservation District plans to host an open house on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
The open house will be at the USDA building at 201 Springfield Ave. in Anna. Doors open at 7 a.m. The open house lasts until 5 p.m.
Union County Soil and Water Conservation District directors Carlyn Light, Larry Hale, Dana Eddleman, Kent Treece and Bill Littrell invite the community to attend the open house, which will be a come-and-go event.
Those who attend the open house will have an opportunity to vote for two district directors.
Voting also is planned for the county winner in a 5th grade poster contest. The theme for the contest is “Life in the Soil: Dig Deeper.”
Each of the schools in Union County has entered a poster which was created by a 5th grade student from their school.
The county’s poster contest winner will be sent to the state contest for conservation districts in Illinois.
Three guest speakers are scheduled to give presentations at the open house.
Dr. Emerson Nafziger is scheduled to talk about an Illinois nutrient loss reduction strategy at 10:30 a.m.
Jeremy Harris from Southern FS is scheduled to talk about new technology in precision agriculture at 11:30 a.m.
Union County Soil and Water Conservation District resource conservationist John Wingate is scheduled to talk about pond management at 1 p.m.
A free lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m.
