Local students part of mentorship program

Shawnee Community College representatives Brett Whitnel and Rob Lucas participated in a recent Union County CEO mentorship program. The program was presented Jan. 29 at the college's extension center in Anna.

Whitnel and Lucas met with local high school students to hear their “first pitches” about future business ideas. Brett Whitnel works in the Shawnee Community College Small Business Development Center as a business counselor.

Rob Lucas is an educational technology specialist at the college. With their insights in small business development and technology, Whitnel and Lucas were able to advise the high school students and discuss their business plans. The meeting was the first time students had met with Whitnel and Lucas and discussed the beginning ideas each student or group had for their business.

The mentorship program plans to meet every couple months, or as needed, to assist the students in their small business goals.
