Interstate wreck involves vehicle carrying ice cream

A traffic accident involving a vehicle which was transporting ice cream was reported very early Tuesday morning, Feb. 9, in Union County.

Illinois State Police at Ullin reported that the accident happened at approximately 12:08 a.m. Tuesday in the southbound lane of Interstate 57.

The scene of the accident was just south of the Anna exit on the interstate. The exit is at Illinois Route 146, east of Anna.

State police reported that  the accident involved a white 2015 International truck tractor towing a van trailer.

The driver of the vehicle was identified by state police as Spencer A. Mason, 47, of Vandalia.

The vehicle was traveling south on the interstate  when the driver apparently lost control of the unit.

The vehicle swerved into the highway median and struck a guardrail. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its roof.

State police reported that the driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver was wearing his seat belt.

Southbound traffic on the interstate was down to one lane while clean up continued at the accident scene.

The Anna and Dongola fire departments were called to the scene of the accident. The fire departments were on standby after it was reported that some diesel fuel had leaked from the vehicle.
