IDOT: Ramp closures begin July 12 on I-57
The Illinois Department of Transportation, IDOT, is alerting motorists about upcoming interstate ramp closures in the area.
Beginning on Tuesday, July 12, weather permitting, the I-57 south bound entrance and exit ramps (exit 40) to Goreville will be closed for 10 days.
IDOT explained in a news release that the closures are necessary to construct pavement on I-57 adjacent to the south bound ramps, along with milling and resurfacing of the ramp pavement. The north bound entrance and exit ramps will remain open.
IDOT encourages motorists to use I-57 south bound exit 45 or I-24 east bound exit 7. Message boards and signs will be in place to alert motorists about the closures.
IDOT asks motorists to slow down and use extreme caution while traveling through work zones.
