Forest Service/Shawnee Forest plan to host kids' fishing derbies
Fishing derbies for young people are planned Saturday, May 18, by the U.S. Forest Service/Shawnee National Forest.
The fishing derbies are scheduled at two locations: the Oakwood Bottoms Interpretive Site, south of Murphysboro and near Grand Tower; and Pond No. 4 at Grantsburg.
Both of the fishing derbies are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The fishing derbies will be held rain or shine.
Young people ages 5 through 15 are invited to participate. The derbies will feature prizes, games and crafts.
Some bait will be provided. Young people must be accompanied by an adult.
Lunch will be provided. Those who plan to attend the derbies are asked to bring chairs or blankets to sit on for lunch.
