Mrs. Elaine Rude
Mrs. Elaine Rude, age 94 of Springfield, formerly of Cobden, died at 11:55 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2013 at her home in Springfield. Elaine was born in Alto Pass Illinois on August 27, 1919 to Lawrence L and Lena R. Lamer (nee Angell). She married Charles A. Rude on October 11, 1941 in Jackson, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2005.
She was the eldest girl of nine siblings, six of whom preceded her in death: Gordon, George, Betty Knox, Carolyn Stegle, Marilyn Lewis and Loretta Berry. Elaine graduated from Cobden High School in 1937. In 1955, Elaine and Charles moved to Springfield Illinois, where they were active members of the First Congregational UCC in Springfield. Elaine was a member of the Eastern Star for over fifty years and was a member of the Union Congregational Church of Cobden, Illinois. An avid baseball Cardinals fan, she knew the names and positions of the players over the many years that she listened to and watched them, including this year's team. The family expresses deepest appreciation to Stacey Segler and Pat Short who expertly attended to Elaine in her home with friendship, loving care and kindness.
Elaine loved her family and was a devoted wife to Charles, a caring and dear sister, sister-in-law, cousin, aunt and great aunt. She is survived by her brothers Jack and Tom Lamer, sister-in-law Judy, brothers-in-law Bob Stegle and Gerald Berry, many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces and grand nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Elaine Rude will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Rev. Bryan Morrison officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church; 2100 South Bates Avenue, Springfield, Illinois 62704, or Union Congregational Church, P O Box 443, Cobden, Illinois 62920, or to a charity of your choice.
