Marissa knocked off Shawnee 4-0 in the championship of the Class 1A high school baseball sectional played at Cobden Saturday, May 30.

“We hit the ball all day,” Shawnee coach Mike Hanson said. “It just kept going right at somebody. It was one of those games you know something is weird.”

Marissa scored on a pair of Shawnee errors in the 1st inning, tacked on two more runs in the 4th inning and added an insurance run in the 5th frame.

Winning pitcher Chris Fullerton, 7-0, tossed a two-hitter to remain undefeated for the season.

Greg Smith and Eric Lambdin were each 1-for-2 for all of Shawnee’s hitting.

Tyler Glidewell, Greg Smith and Clay Murphy pitched in the loss, combining to scatter 6 hits.

Hanson said this was the first time any of his teams had made it to the sectional championship.

The Redskins finished the season winning the regional, South Egyptian Conference title and the conference tournament.

Shawnee finished 20-7 in the spring. The team had a combined 32-7 overall record during fall and spring play.
