Marie Hedstrom

<p class="p1">Marie Hedstrom, 97, of Carbondale, and formerly of Mt. Prospect, and Palm Coast, Florida, died at 6:59 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at her home in Carbondale.</p><p class="p1">She was born on Sept. 20, 1918, the daughter of Emil and Otillia Nystrom Hakanson.</p><p class="p1">She married Milton Hedstrom on June 10, 1936. He preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 1998.</p><p class="p1">She had worked as a secretary for the Village of Mt. Prospect and, later, at Illinois Range Company. Her faith and her church memberships were important aspects of her life. She and her husband were members of Northwest Covenant Church for 28 years. They were founding members of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Palm Coast, Florida. Most recently she attended Grace United Methodist Church in Carbondale.</p><p class="p1">She is survived by her daughters, Mary Stammer (Bill) of Alto Pass and Marjorie Hedstrom (Randall Miller) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; grandchildren Martin Stammer (Andrea) of St. Louis, Emily Stammer (Matthew Tavares) of Baltimore, Maryland, Nathan Miller of Des Moines, Iowa, and Hannah Stanzel (Adam) of Oskaloosa, Iowa; great-granddaughter, Layla Stanzel; nieces, nephews and other relatives.</p><p class="p1">Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights.</p><p class="p1">Memorials can be made to H.O.P.E., 3850 Merle Hay Rd., Suite 606, Des Moines, Iowa 50310, www.hopeagencydsm.org.</p><p class="p1">To leave online condolences, visit www.crainsonline.com.</p><p class="p1">Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.</p>
