Lindsey Rae Writes The Day: The Day Courtesy Dies is the Day Humanity Dies

This world has some remarkable people in it. Astounding, courageous, generous, kind, etc. But there are also people that are full of hate.

I was speaking to my mom this week and she shared something with me that made perfect sense. My step-dad was watching some cooking show as she walked through the living room. The cook-show host was asking a 96-year-old man about manners and courtesy. The man said, “The day people stop practicing good manners and courtesy is the day that humanity dies.”

Wow! That made complete sense to me.

How much better is your day when a stranger holds open a door for you, your cashier smiles and says ‘have a nice day,’ and your friends and family does something nice for you?

There are many days that a door gets shut right before we get there, the cashier looks and acts cranky and your friends and family come up with excuses not to help you. We all have those days and they are inevitable.

The later scenario lacks manners and courtesy. Imagine a world like that every day. No one says hi, no on smiles, everyone looks out for themselves before others. Every single person is this way.

I know there are groups in this world that many believe have lost their humanity. They hurt others and show no compassion. But there are also groups that go out of their way to push kindness onto others, whether they ask for it or not.

The day that everyone has courtesy and manners is the day that world peace will be achieved. The day that everyone loses courtesy and manners is the day that humanity dies. Right now, we are somewhere in between.
