Lick Creek wins regional

<p class="p1">The Lick Creek Lady Eagles volleyball team won a Class S junior high regional championship on Thursday, March 19, at Lick Creek Elementary School. Their first opponent  was the Joppa Lady Rangers on Tuesday, March 17. Lick Creek won in two sets, 26-24 and 25-20. The Lady Eagles then played for the championship against the Shawnee Lady Braves on Thursday. Lick Creek won in two sets, 25-16 and 25-11. </p><p class="p1">The Lady Eagles have advanced to the state championship, which features the top 16 teams in Southern Illinois. Lick Creek will play Cisne at noon in Herrin on Saturday, March 28. </p><p class="p1">Members of the Lick Creek squad are, in the first row, from left, Kalynn Grant, Campbell Belcher, Julia Hall and Erin Overstreet. In the second row are coach Tony Calabrese, Cori Turner, Ashley Barringer, Sydney Heath, Angel Helm, Brenley Barringer and Haley Lence. <p class="p1">Sydney Heath blocked a ball for Lick Creek against Joppa during a Class S regional tournament game on March 17. The game was played at Lick Creek. The Lick Creek volleyball team won the regional championship on Thursday, March 19,  with a victory over Shawnee. </p>
