Lena Mildred Schaefer
Lena Mildred Schaefer, age 101, of Anna, IL, passed away at 4:10 PM, Thursday, July 2, 2009 at home. Lena was born December 22, 1907 in Wolf Lake, IL, the daughter of Albert Eugene and Fannie Sides Markert. She married Raymond Schaefer on July 19, 1924. He preceded her in death in 1993. They resided in Wolf Lake until 1957 when they moved to a farm in the Saratoga Community, IL and in 1976 they moved to Wilson Street in Anna. They were members of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anna and she was a member of the Church Altar Society.
Lena is survived by one daughter: Ellen Elizabeth (Odean) Sergeant of Lebo, KS, three sons: Eugene Charles (Barbara) Schaefer of Anna, IL, Carol Adam (Aileen) Schaefer of Cape Girardeau, MO, Jimmie Wayne (Wilma) Schaefer of Jonesboro, IL, one daughter-in-law: Gloria Schaefer of Anna, one sister: Maud Matlock of Dunedin FL, 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, plus one great-great grandchild due to be born in the fall of 2009 and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond (1993), an infant daughter, one son; Cyril Raymond Schaefer (2002), 3 sisters; Helen Constance Markert (1907), Dorothy Beatrice Markert (1931), Virginia Othea Markert (1982), and 4 brothers; Clyde Douglas (2000), Earl Hull (1986), Marion Cecil (2007), and James Robert (1969), one grandson and one granddaughter.
Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Mildred Schaefer will be at 10:00 AM Monday, July 6, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anna with Monsignor Dennis Schaefer officiating. Interment will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8PM Sunday July 5, 2009 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Rosary service will be at 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or donors choice, envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
