Larry W. Lipe
Larry W. Lipe, 58, of Carbondale, died at 2:45 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Lipe was born in Carbondale, the son of Lester Wilburn and Rose Ellen Stearns Lipe, on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1951.
He was engaged to be married to Shari Crockett.
He served his country in the Marine Corps from 1973 to 2000, retiring with the rank of master sergeant.
He was of the Baptist faith. He was an experienced orchardist and Makanda Township’s tax assessor.
He was a member of many organizations, including a charter member of the Marine Corps League Shawnee Detachment, the Southern Chapter of the Leatherneck Motorcycle Club International, and a life member of the Murpysboro VFW.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Joshua W. and Meredith Lipe of Carbondale and Matthew Lipe of Channahon; his mother, Rose Ellen Lipe; one brother, John Lipe of Carbondale; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Laura Lipe of Carbondale, Nancy and Steve Esling of Carbondale, and Sara Lipe of Carbondale; two nieces, Ellen and Molly Esling; and his fiancee, Shari Crockett.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Wilburn “Wib” Lipe.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, today, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Rev. Dr. K. Stephen Combs officiating. Interment will be in Boskydell Cemetery with a military service.
