Lady Wildcats’ season ends with regional loss
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Anna-Jonesboro fell behind in the opening quarter and couldn’t catch up in a 39-31 loss to Carterville in the Class 2A regional high school girls’ basketball tournament at Vienna Tuesday, Feb. 9.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Trailing, the Lady Wildcats were forced to foul in an attempt to catch up. The Lady Lions made 6 of 9 free throws in the last 1:45 of the game to seal the win.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Elle Basler scored 10 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and had a steal to lead the Lady Wildcats.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Angel Helm had 6 points and 12 rebounds. Lexa Sharp had 6 points and an assist. Jasmin Foster had 5 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Connar Hadley had 4 points, 4 rebounds and an assist.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">A-J finished the season at 12-18 overall. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Coach Matt Denny said he looks forward to next season with all his starters returning. </span></p>
