Junior Wildcats wrestling squad hosts tournament

<p class="p1">The Junior Wildcats wrestling team sponsored a five state tournament at the Anna-Jonesboro Community High School gymnasium Sunday, Dec. 20.</p><p class="p1">“We had 220 kids represented from five states,” tournament coordinator Grover Mays said. “We had teams from Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, Indiana and Illinois.”</p><p class="p1">The Junior Wildcats had 26 pins during the tournament.</p><p class="p1">Following are results for the Junior Wildcats competing:</p><p class="p1"><strong>6 years:</strong> Jase Holshouser, 3-0, 1st place; Caden Wiggs, 0-3, 4th; Titus Dover, 1-2, 3rd; Korbin Hale, 2-1, 2nd; JR Wright, 1-1, 2nd.</p><p class="p1"><strong>8 years:</strong> Noah  Chotner, 2-1 2nd; Tate Miller, 2-1, 2nd; Jack Smith, 0-2, 2nd.</p><p class="p1"><strong>10 years:</strong> Miles DeLashmutt, 0-4 5th; Travis Samuels, 2-1, 3rd; Zoee Sadler, 2-1, 1st; Daniel Dover, 2-1, 2nd; Liam Ferguson, 0-3, 4th; Caleb Mays, 3-0, 1st; Nile Chotner, 3-0, 1st; Brett Smith, 3-0, 1st; Drew Holshouser, 0-3, 4th; Stuart Busby, 2-2, 3rd; Kylie Hale, 0-3, 4th; Drew Sadler, 4-0, 1st.</p><p class="p1"><strong>12 years: </strong> Caleb Mays, 0-3, 4th; Grover Mays, 4-0, 1st; Barry Johnson, 3-0, 1st.</p><p class="p1"><strong>14 years:</strong> Dylan Smith, 0-3, 4th; Barry Johnson, 0-3, 4th; Wyatt Dowdy, 2-1, 2nd; Justice Kostal, 1-2, 3rd.</p><p class="p1">The youth program plans on donating $500 to the Anna-Jonesboro Community High School wrestling team along with working on paying off a new mat purchased for the high school and youth program to use with profits made from the tourney.</p><p class="p1">A-J Junior Wildcats’ Grover Mays and Drew Sadler recently competed in the Virginia Atlantic Coast National Holiday Duals in Virginia Beach, Virginia. </p><p class="p1">The tournament was comprised of 48 teams from California to Delaware. The majority of the teams were represented by that state’s state champions or top finishers.</p><p class="p1">Grover Mays (Illinois state second place) wrestled for the Illinois National team at 76 pounds and finished 6-4 during the three day tourney. Team Illinois won the bronze bracket.</p><p class="p1">Drew Sadler (Illinois state champion) wrestled for the School of Buxton out of Pennsylvania at 55 pounds. He went 2-8 in the tourney. His team finished in fifth place in the gold bracket.</p>
