Jonesboro Public Library hosting annual summer reading program

It’s time to get wild about reading during the annual summer reading program at Jonesboro Public Library.

The program began June 23 and continues through Aug. 11.

The theme for the year is “Read on the Wild Side” and children are encouraged to read for pleasure during summer vacation.

Children of all ages are welcome to attend and registration is still open.

Karen Hallam, the director of the summer reading program says, “Just show up and have fun."

Story hour, scheduled each Tuesday at 2 p.m., will include games, special projects and a story read out loud.

During story hour on June 30, children colored their own picture of a wild jungle snake and decorated monkey door hangers.

Later, volunteer Rikki Stone read “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs” by Jon Scieszka and “Too Many Frogs” by Sandy Asher.

All children are encouraged to open a book to a wide world of adventure, and the Jonesboro Public Library is making sure kids get that opportunity.

It isn’t too late to get involved in the summer reading program, so come and join the wild excitement.
