Jonesboro Council approves rate increases

The Jonesboro City Council last week approved an ordinance which sets new water and sewer rates for customers in the Union County community.

The ordinance was approved at the city council’s regular meeting on Tuesday night, Sept. 4.

The new rates go into effect on Oct. 1.

The rates reflect increases in the cost of operations. The city is expecting an increase in the rate it pays for water from its supplier. The city purchases water from the Anna-Jonesboro Water Commission.

Jonesboro has about 825 utility customers.

The following rates are set in the ordinance which was passed last week:

Water Rates

Inside city limits, 1,500 gallons, from a $15 monthly minimum to $16.50.

Outside city limits, 1,500 gallons, from $17.50 to $19.25.

Inside and outside city limits, over 1,500 gallons, $.005445 per gallon.

Sewer Rates

Inside city limits, 1,500 gallons, from $7.60 minimum to $8.30.

Outside city limits, 1,500 gallons, from $9.10 to $9.95.

Inside and outside city limits, over 1,500 gallons, $.001637 per gallon.
