Johnston City nips A-J 60-59

Anna-Jonesboro missed a last-second shot in a 60-59 loss to Johnston City Monday, Nov. 26, in first-round action in high school boys’ basketball tournament action at Goreville.

The Indians made several fourth quarter free throws to spoil the Wildcats’ season-opener.

The Wildcats led 21-17 after one quarter, but the Indians fought back to tie the game 32-32 at halftime.

Johnston City led 49-43 heading into the fourth quarter.

Tyler Vaughn led A-J with 14 points and 3 rebounds.

Ben McFarland added 11 points and 8 rebounds. Noah Fuller had 11 points and 2 rebounds.

Colton James and Zach Parr each scored 8 points. Jay Kemp had 4 points and 7 rebounds. Damian Reed had 3 points and 5 rebounds.

The Wildcats were 7 of 10 from 3-point range, 16 of 34 from 2-point range and 6 of 9 at the free throw line.
