Jerry Dillon
Jerry Dillon, 73, of McClure, Illinois, went home quietly to be with his Lord Tuesday morning, February 23, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Giardeau.
He was born August 16, 1936, in Cape Girardeau. the son of Sidney and Delia Waterman Dillon. He and Patsy Wiggs united in marriage on November 25, 1956 at Llick Creek, Illinois.
He was an operating engineer before illnesses caused his retirement. He was a 50 year member of the Operating Engineers local 318 — Harrisburg, Illinois. He was a member of McClure Baptist Church and attended Sandy Creek Baptist Church of Tamms. Illinois.. He was President of the local Kidney Foundation several years ago and has served on the Lindsey Cemetery Board. He graduated from Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake and had attended Southeast Missouri State University.
He enjoyed keeping his yard immaculate, growing a bountiful garden, hunting with his grandson and fishing with his children, grandchildren aid great- grandchildren..
On March 25,1975. his father, Sidney, lovingly gave one of his kidneys to him. This gift of life allowed him to see his children grow and to enjoy the blessings of the birth and life of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even though he lived to be 73, his kidney miraculously worked for 102 years..
Survivors include wife Patsy Dillon of McClure, Illinois. He was the loving father of Cheryl (Scott) Miller of Tamms, Illinois and Kevin Dillon of McClure, Illinois He cherished his grandchildren, Kristin (Mike) Caldwell and Joshua Miller (girlfriend Heather Pender). He adored his three great-grandchildren Wyatt, Ethan and Kyle Caldwell of Tamms. He is also survived by an aunt, uncle, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Ford & Sons Sprigg St. Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral will be Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Ford & Sons Sprigg St. Chapel with Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, Illinois.
