A-JCHS students participate in local art competitions
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Twenty students from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School have had artwork accepted into the Scholastic Art Competition. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">There were 797 entries this year from Southern Illinois as well as 20 portfolios. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">A-JCHS students will have 35 works and two portfolios on display from Jan. 16, until the closing ceremony, which will be held on Feb. 14, at 3 p.m. at the Mitchell Museum in Mt. Vernon. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">All Gold Key winners will have a photograph of their work submitted into the National Scholastic Competition in New York City. A-JCHS has 10 Gold Key winners. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Also, the Little Egypt Arts Association is sponsoring the 10th Annual High School Competition. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The students’ work will be displayed at the gallery on the square in Marion from Jan. 11 through Feb. 7. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">This show will conclude with the closing reception and awards at 2 p.m. on Feb. 7.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">LEAA invited 29 high school art teachers from Southern Illinois to participate in this competition. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Each teacher was able to submit up to five works of art from their students. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The teachers are able to submit one of their own works for display only. There were no size or media restrictions. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Participating schools are: Carterville, Marion, Vienna, Anna-Jonesboro, Harrisburg, Eldorado, Galatia, Benton, Johnston City, West Frankfort, Herrin, Zeigler-Royalton, Sesser-Valier and Cobden.</span></p>
