James "Jim" Shipley Jr.

James "Jim" Shipley Jr., 58, of Ware and a former resident of Buncome, died at 9:35 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at his home.

He was born Dec. 1 1950, in Lafe Arkansas, the son of James A Shipley and Martha (Asher) Shipley.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Shipley of Vienna; three sisters, Judy Jones of Vienna, Mary Cohoon of Metropolis and Virginia Carter of Montegut, La.; two brothers, Darrell Shipley of Buncombe and Scott Shipley of Garwood, Tex.; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great newphews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Shipley Sr., and a brother, Robert Shipley.

He was a 1968 graduate of Metropolis High School. He was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1972-1981 in Germany. He had worked as a self-employed mechanic. He was skilled in all types of mechanical work and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need of help. He was an avid motorcyclist and always attended the blessing of the bikes at Bald Knob Cross. He was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services were held Sunday evening, Oct. 18, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Brother Fred Schlenker and Brother Darrell Ralls will officiate.

A military flag presentation ceremony was held at the conclusion of the funeral Service by Beggs-Gurley VFW Post 5222 and the Illinois Burial Honors Detail.

Memorials may be made to the AmericanCancer Society, 4503 DeYoung Street, Site 200C, Marion IL 62959.

Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna was in charge of arrangements.
