A-J volleyball team wins regional title

The Anna-Jonesboro High School volleyball team fell behind early but bounced back for a 25-17 and 25-10 win over top-seeded Harrisburg for the championship of the Vienna Class 2A regional tournament Saturday, Oct. 31.

The No. 2 seeded Lady Wildcats trailed 7-1 before staging the come-from-behind bid.

“It’s pretty exciting,” A-J volleyball coach Amy Fitzgerald-Wilson said. “They’re playing well right now.”

The regional title was the first for the Lady Wildcats since 2003.

A-J is on a seven-game winning streak.

Karley Heath had 8 serves, 2 aces and 11 assists for A-J. Adriel Cross had 11 sets and 5 assists.

Rachel Hayden had 7 serves, 5 aces and 7 digs. Lindsey Patterson had 5 serves and 3 aces.

Leslie Donna had 10 serve receives. Chandra Parr had 8 serve receives and 5 digs.

Emma Basler had 3 hits and 3 kills. Kaylee Little had 4 hits and 5 kills. Elise Wheaton had  a set and 2 assists. 

A-J, 19-12, was to have played Fairfield Tuesday in first-round action at the Harrisburg sectional.
