A-J softball team opens season with two losses

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School softball team lost its first two games of the season.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1"><strong>Johnston City 12, A-J  0:</strong> The host Lady Wildcats were plagued by 7 errors in the season-opening loss to Johnston  City Tuesday, March 17.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">A-J was limited to a pair of hits in the loss. Madeline Mayo and Makaila Smith were each 1-for-1 to lead the Lady Wildcats hitting.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Mackenzie Carter was the losing pitcher, scattering 7 hits to go with 6 walks and 3 strikeouts.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1"><strong>Steeleville 11, A-J 7:</strong> Haley Inman was 2-for-3 with a triple and 2 RBIs to lead the Lady Wildcats in the loss Thursday, March 19.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Payton Alsip was 1-for-1 and scored a run. Carter was 1-for-2. Mayo was 1-for-3. Hailley Abernathy was 1-for-4 with a three-run home run. Katie King was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Mackenzie Conaway scored 2 runs.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Carter and Britni Helton pitched in the loss, combining to scatter 9 hits.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">A-J is scheduled to play at home against Cobden Monday, March 30.</span></p>
