A-J posts 4-1 record to take second at Goreville Tourney
<p class="p1">The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School boys’ basketball team finished with a 4-1 record to claim second place in the Goreville Tournament last week.</p><p class="p1">Benton finished 5-0 to win the tourament.</p><p class="p1">A-J’s Dakota Earnhart and Jake Parr were both named to the all-tournament team.</p><p class="p1"><strong>A-J 54, Hamilton County 28:</strong> Jake Parr had 18 points and 5 rebounds to lead the Wildcats to the final game win Saturday, Dec. 5.</p><p class="p1">Earnhart added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Garrett Nimmo had 6 points and 2 rebounds. Hunter Garver had 5 points and a rebound. Collin Prather had 3 points and 3 rebounds. </p><p class="p1">Ryan Stark had 3 points. Jake Stark had 2 points and 2 rebounds. Wyatt Smith and Izzy Markovic each had 2 points and a rebound.</p><p class="p1">A-J led 12-2 after one quarter and 25-8 at the half.</p><p class="p1">The Wildcats were 16 of 31 in shot attempts from the field, 5 of 13 from 3-point range and 8 of 16 from the free throw line.</p><p class="p1"><strong>A-J 87, Egyptian 25:</strong> Ryan Stark had 10 points and 4 rebounds to lead the Wildcats to the win earlier on Saturday.</p><p class="p1">Jake Parr had 10 points and 4 rebounds. Nimmo had 9 points and 4 rebounds. Jade Gillis had 9 points. Jake Stark had 8 points and 3 rebounds. </p><p class="p1">Wyatt Smith had 6 points and 4 rebounds. Sheldon McGrath had 6 points and 2 rebounds. Earnhart had 6 points and a rebound. </p><p class="p1">Izzy Markovic had 6 points and a rebound. Prater had 4 points and a rebound. Ethan Friebel had 2 points and 2 rebounds.</p><p class="p1">A-J was ahead 46-10 at the half.</p><p class="p1">The Wildcats were 26 of 47 in shot attempts from the field, 8 of 14 from 3-point range and 11 of 15 from the charity stripe.</p><p class="p1"><strong>Benton 47, A-J 31:</strong> The Rangers led 14-2 after one quarter and were on top 24-9 at the half in the game played Friday, Dec. 4.</p><p class="p1">Benton led 39-20 going into the final period.</p><p class="p1">Jake Parr had 7 points and 7 rebounds to lead A-J.</p><p class="p1">Earnhart had 7 points and 5 rebounds. Ryan Stark had 5 points and a rebound. Nimmo had 4 points and 4 rebounds. McGrath had 4 points and a rebound. Prather had 2 points and 3 rebounds. Jake Stark had 2 points.</p><p class="p1">The loss was costly as starter Zach Parr injured a knee in the game and his status for the rest of the season is uncertain. </p><p class="p1">A-J trailed 14-2 at the end of one quarter and 24-9 at the half. The Wildcats fought back to pull to 39-20 going into the final period.</p><p class="p1">The Wildcats were 10 of 23 in shot attempts from the field, 1 of 8 from 3-point range and 11 of 14 from the charity stripe.</p><p class="p1"><strong>A-J 71, Goreville 65:</strong> Zach Parr had 18 points and 3 rebounds to lead A-J to the tourney win Tuesday, Dec. 1.</p><p class="p1">Earnhart had 14 points and 7 rebounds. Jake Parr had 13 points and 8 rebounds. </p><p class="p1">Nimmo had 13 points and 3 rebounds. Smith had 4 points and 4 rebounds. </p><p class="p1">Ryan Stark had 4 points and a rebound. Garver had 3 points and a rebound. Prather had 2 points. </p><p class="p1">The Wildcats were 14 of 29 in shot attempts from the floor, 8 of 18 from the 3-point line and 19 of 27 from the charity stripe.</p><p class="p1">A-J is scheduled to play Nashville at home Friday and visits Cobden on Saturday.</p>
