A-J players picked for all-star game

Five former Anna-Jonesboro Community High School players are scheduled to play in an all-star football game scheduled this week.

The Southern Illinois All-Star high school football game is set for Friday evening, June 19.

The game will be played at McAndrew Stadium on the campus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

The game features the Southern Illinois All-Stars against the Western Kentucky All-Stars.

Former Wildcat players who are scheduled to play are defensive end Sully Edwards, linebacker Rik Hicks, defensive lineman Mitchell Holshouser, offensive lineman Adam Kelley and running back Ryan Mays.

The players were named to the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division team, as well as the Southern Illinois Coaches Association All-South squad.

A-J head coach Brett Detering and Wildcat assistant coach Dave Sullivan are members of the Southern Illinois All-Stars coaching staff.
