A-J boys' track team wins second straight sectional
The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School boys' track team had five first place finishes to win the Class 1A sectional meet at Fairfield Thursday, May 21.
A-J, which also won the title last year, won the sectional crown with a score of 145. A-J's closest challenger, Fairfield, finished with 117.
First place efforts for the Wildcats were recorded by Alec Gold in the 100-meter dash with 11.20 and 200-meter dash in 23.79; Izzy Markovic in the high jump with 6-2; Steve Wells in the shot put with 49-8.5; and the 4 x 800-meter relay team of Diego Godinez, Bayle Robertson, Taylor Anderson and Marcus Taylor in 9.02.4.
Second place efforts for A-J were posted by Taylor in the pole vault with 11-6; Gold in the long jump with 19-11.50; Noah Fuller in the triple jump with 38-10; Jared Rendleman in the shot put with 43-02.50; the 4 x 100-meter relay team of Kylen Grant, Derek Grass, Gold and Jaryt Tripp in 46.31; and Anderson in the 800-meter run in 2:10.81.
The top two finishers in each event and qualifying times qualified for the state tournament at Charleston.
Third place efforts for A-J were recorded by Rendleman in the discus with 124-02; Taylor in the 800-meter run in 2:13.7 and the 300-meter hurdles in 43.79.
Fourth places were posted by Dylan Fox in the pole vault with 9-0;
Fuller in the high jump with 5-8; and the 4 x 200-meter relay team of Grant, Fox, Tripp and Ben Godinez in 1:41.67.
Fifth place efforts were recorded by Dallas Marks in the discus with 113-0; Tripp in the 400-meter dash in 57.76; Markovic in the 300-meter hurdles in 46.70; Robertson in the 1600-meter run in 5:23.38; and Fox in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.54.
