A-J boy’s soccer team anticipating success

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School boy’s soccer team could have a lot of success this fall.

“The potential is very good,” A-J soccer coach Michael Mibb said. “But overall right now, we’re better offensively than we’ve been. I don’t know about defensively.”

The only drawback for the season could be a lack of players.

“We don’t have great numbers,” Mibb said. “So everybody will be playing a lot.”

Seniors expected to contribute are Ariel Godinez, Dusty Whiteside, Uriel Godinez, Jacob Brimm and Sean Foster.

Two new seniors who could see action are David Kern and Johnny Paneda.

Juniors on the roster are Daniel Heath and Colton Collier.

Sophomores who could be called on are Caleb Mixen, Tyler McDaniel, Seth Watson, Hayden Newberry and Cody Garver.

Freshmen hopefuls include Enrique Arreola, Eli Scherer, Braden Rider and Drew Middleton.

Goalkeeper duties will be handled by senior Jordan Kern, who Mibb said is very athletic. He’ll be  backed up by sophomore Mason Hayward.

“At the central middle (position) we’re really solid,” Mibb said.

Assistant coach of the squad is Mark Boomer.

The Wildcats are scheduled to open their season at the Metro Cup in Belleville Thursday, Aug. 27. A-J plays Trenton-Wesclin in first round action.

“We have potential to win it this year,” Mibb said of the tournament.

The Wildcats open fall regular season play at Harrisburg Monday, Aug. 31.
