Hunter safety course set March 22-23 in Anna

An Illinois Department of Natural Resources hunter safety course is scheduled Friday and Saturday, March 22-23, in Union County.

The course will be taught at the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church at 315 South St. in Anna.

Hours are from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. March 22 and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 23.

A 1996 state law requires that all hunters born on or after Jan. 1, 1980, successfully complete the hunter education course before they can receive their first hunting license.

Those who complete the course receive a hunter education certification card verifying they have passed the course of instruction.

Participants will be asked to provided their Social Security number at the time of the class.

The course includes instruction in wildlife management, firearms safety, hunter ethics, game identification, first aid, survival techniques and regulations.
