Hunter safety course set March 18-19 in Anna

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Area residents will have an opportunity to learn basic principles of safe hunting at an Illinois Department of Natural Resources, IDNR, hunter safety course which is scheduled in Union County.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The course is planned March 18-19 at the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Anna. The church is located at 315 South St.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Hours for the course are from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. March 18 and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 19. Organizers note that students must attend both classes.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The course includes instruction in wildlife management, firearms safety, hunter ethics, game identification, first aid, survival techniques and regulations.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Preregistration is required to attend the class. To preregister, call 618-697-0286.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">A 1996 state law requires that all hunters born on or after Jan. 1, 1980, to successfully complete a hunter education course before they can receive their first hunting license.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Participants who complete the course receive a hunter education certification card. The card certifies that they have passed the course of instruction.</span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">Participants will be asked to provide their Social Security number at the time of the class.</span></p>
