Howard R. "Bud" Davie

Howard R. "Bud" Davie, 93, of Ware, died at 1:54 p.m., Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 in the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was born Jan. 22, 1923 west of Ware, the son of Dan and Victoria (Kohrman) Davie. Bud was the great-great-great grandson of Winstead Davie, the founder of Anna. He married Jean V. Brown on Oct. 27, 1946 in the Ware United Methodist Church, together they shared 69 years of marriage.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jean V. Davie of Ware; two daughters, Gayla (Bob) Smithey of Ware, Ranae (Mark) Smith of Buncombe; seven grandchildren, Rob (Marcey) Smithey of Wolf Lake, Sharee (Justin) McAlister of Scott City, Missouri, Brandon Smithey and fiancée Danielle Parr of Ware, Bethany (Samuel) Bennett of Cobden, Heather (Larry) Goodwin of West Memphis, April (Jay) Parks of Hawaii, and Gabe (Layne) Smith of New Madrid, Missouri; 15 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Joe (Charlene) Davie of Normal, Illinois, five nieces; three nephews; other relative and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; three brothers; four nephews; mother and father in law; two brothers in law; and three sisters in law.

He was a member of the Ware United Methodist Church for many years, where he was very active and was a licensed rural Chaplain.  He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Master Life Member of Handyman Club of America, American Beekeeping Federation, and the Illinois Holstein Association, where he served as a board member.

He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a road commissioner, member of the Mended Hearts, member of the Capaha Rose Garden of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Shalom Parrish, S.I.E.C., and A.S.C. office.

He was very active in his community from doing electrical work to sharing his roses and helping his family and friends. During a mission trip to a Mexican village he used his carpentry skills to assist with various projects. During his life he has owned and operated the Ga-Na Holstein Dairy Farm, he was a grain farmer, and beekeeper,  he supplied honey to Sue Bee Co. and raised rabbits.

The love and devotion Bud had for his family was as a priority. Howard enjoyed all of the family celebrations they had together. Among his many interests, were gardening, farming, working in his woodshop and working puzzles.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. John Walden officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ware United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
