Hileman, Miller, Cunningham win Union County races

More than 8,300 voters cast ballots in Tuesdays' Union County general election.

Winners in contested county races on Tuesday included:

For Union County coroner: Democrat Phil Hileman of Jonesboro defeated Republican Beverly J. Bolanowski of Anna by a margin of 4,845 to 3,266.

For Union County commissioner, Seat D, six-year term: Republican Max Miller of Anna defeated Democrat Wayne Brown of Dongola by a vote of 4,210 to 3,576.

For Union County commissioner, Seat E, four-year term: Democrat Richard L. Cunningham of Jonesboro edged Republican Walter L. Jackson of Dongola by a vote of 4,059 to 3,828.

Results for uncontested county races on Tuesday included:

For Union County circuit clerk: incumbent Democrat Lorraine Moreland of Cobden received 6,972 votes.

For Union County state's attorney: incumbent Democrat Tyler R. Edmonds of Anna received 6,693 votes.

For Union County commissioner, seat A, 6-year term: Democrat Danny Hartline of Cobden received 6,367 votes. Hartline was unopposed.

A total of 8,353 votes were cast in Union County in Tuesday's general election. That represented 69.78 percent of the county's 11,970 registered voters.

Electricity

aggregation

Electricity aggregation was on the ballot Tuesday for voters in Union County and specifically for those in the Village of Cobden.

The proposal would allow local governing bodies to negotiate on behalf of customers in utility rate matters.

The countywide proposal was defeated by a margin of 3,736 to 3,565.

In Cobden, voters approved the measure by a vote of 228 to 132.
