Herman Dean Chapman
Herman Dean Chapman, 66, of Vienna, died Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11:34 p.m. at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
He was born on Dec. 29, 1946, in Union County, the son of Herschel Wilber "Blackie" Chapman and Eva Lee Andrews Chapman.
He married Sharon Brumley in 1985 in Union County. She survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Chapman is survived by his children, Herman Chapman Jr. of Jonesboro, Mark Chapman of Jonesboro, Jennifer Chapman of Missouri and Sierra Chapman of Vienna; four grandchildren, Owen, Chance, Pierce and Connor Chapman; five brothers, Herschel Lee Chapman of Florida, William "Willie" Joe Chapman of Wolf Lake, James Chapman of Metropolis, Charles Chapman and Donnie Chapman, both of Cobden; six sisters, Martha Lemons and Norma Burke, both of Cape Girardeau, Nancy Austin of Buncombe, Kay Chapman of Anna, Emma Odle of Metropolis and Irma Chapman of Metropolis; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a graduate of Shawnee High School at Wolf Lake. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1966 to 1968. During his service, he was stationed at Fort Carson, Colo.
He was known for his "green-thumb" and love of gardening. He raised and sold his homegrown produce. Herman also liked fishing, hunting, camping and "walking the bluff." He was of the Christian faith.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial was in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Military rites were accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post and the Illinois National Guard burial honors detail.
