Helping hands

Union County recently experienced a story which had a sad ending but also showed how neighbors, and sometimes complete strangers, come together to help one another in a time of need.

The story involved the extensive search which was conducted to find a missing man who lived in rural Cobden. The story ended sadly, but was resolved in such a manner as to hopefully bring comfort to the family of the missing man.

The search involved a number of good folks who worked together for many hours in an attempt to bring the story to a happy ending.

Those involved in the search came from throughout the region, and a good number of those who helped were volunteers. They did not have to go out in the heat and humidity, but they did. Some did not join in the search, but did support the effort in other ways.

Last week, the Union County Sheriff’s Office voiced its appreciation to the many people who helped with the search. We echo those sentiments. The search effort truly showed why this area is a good place to call home.

Thank you to all of those who helped, and continue to help, their community.
