Helen M. Hilton, 100, of Powderly, Kentucky, formerly of Cobden, died at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016 at her home. She was born on August 8, 1915 in Boskeydell, the daughter of Homer and Ella (Cooper) Fligor. She married Norman E. Hilton on June 23, 1937 in Jackson, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1984.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Harvel of Powderly, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Michael (Rachel) Harvel of Jonesboro, and Sarah Heltsley of Greenville, Kentucky; six great grandchildren, Katie Henderson, Evan Heltsley, Dylan Harvel, Blake Pena, Caitlin and Logan Sawyer; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman E. Hilton; one sister, Julie McHale and one brother, Ernie Fligor.
She was a member of the Congregational Church in Cobden for many years. She was retired from Choate Mental Health and Development Center where she worked as a Clothing Aide. Helen was active in the community holding memberships with Rebekah's Lodge in Carbondale, the Anna Moose Lodge, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Forty & Eight in Carterville, the Union County Hospital Auxiliary, Senior Circle, the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and AFSCME Chapter 31.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Pastor Roger Heltsley officiating. Interment was in the Cobden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.
