Gladys M. Johnston
Gladys M. Johnston, 92, of Anna, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015 in the Anna Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born Sept. 20, 1923 in Jonesboro, the daughter of Lawrence and Grace (Sprous) Lacey. She married Claude "Hi" Johnston on Dec. 23, 1940 in Jackson, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1985 .
She is survived by her daughter, Sharlet Evans of Anna; son Lawrence "Sandy" (Kay) Johnston of Jonesboro; one granddaughter, Kimberly Johnston of Vienna; dear friend, Donna Hunt of Anna; her special Addus workers; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude "Hi" Johnston; and infant sister, Mildred Lacey.
She was of the Baptist faith. Early in her career Gladys worked as a Nursing Assistant at Union County Hospital then until retirement she worked as an LPN for the Union County Nursing Home.
She enjoyed cooking, especially large family meals. In her free time she enjoyed quilting, embroidery, knitting and sewing, and growing flowers.
Graveside funeral were at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 in the Anna City Cemetery with Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment was in the Anna City Cemetery. Friends were asked to go directly to the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna and at the cemetery.
