George E. Fitch

George E. Fitch, 89, of Anna, and formerly of Wolf Lake, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13. 2013, at Union County Hospital in Anna.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1924, in Makanda, the son of Edwin Bryden and Effie Lockard Fitch.

He married Geraldine Hess on July 10, 1945, in Osceola, Ark. She preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 2011.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (John) Blandford of Red Bud; one cousin, Jim (Patricia) Fitch of Detroit, Mich.; nieces and nephews, Sam (Betsy) Hess of Anna, Dianna (Denny) Wilson of Dongola, Derrel (Janet) Whiteside of Thompsonville, and Kathy (Steve) Lay of Ozark; great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Geraldine Fitch.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Anna. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a farmer for many years and drove a bus for the Shawnee School District for 41 years.

Funeral services for Mr. Fitch were at noon Friday, Nov. 15, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Pastor E. James Rivett officiating.

Interment was in the Anna City Cemetery. Graveside military honors were conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Illinois National Guard military honors team of Marion.
