Four Corrections employees honored for life-saving action

Correctional Officers Tim Bowen, Robert Boyd and Chris Whitaker and Correctional Food Supervisor Doug Halterman have been honored as August employees of the month at the Shawnee Correctional Center/Hardin County Work Camp.

In announcing the recognition, warden Allan Martin reported that on May 13 at approximately 3:15 p.m., the four employees were leaving work and came upon a single-car accident on Illinois Route 146.

A vehicle had run into a ditch and flipped over. The driver was pinned inside the vehicle.

"Bowen, Boyd, Whitaker and Halterman acted fast and administered first aid/CPR, possibly preventing a loss of life," Martin stated.

Martin stated that the four men "all went above and beyond their duties as employees and citizens and are all valuable assets to the Shawnee Correctional Center/Hardin County Work Camp and the Illinois Department of Corrections."
