Former Jonesboro man sentenced to 48 years

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds on Wednesday, Jan. 23, reported that a former local man has been sentenced on sexual assault, pornography and weapons charges.

Edmonds reported that Gregory F. McCord, 51, formerly of 200 E. Heacock St. in Jonesboro, was sentenced to 48 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on multiple charges.

McCord was charged with sexually abusing and taking lewd photographs of a young family member in 2006 and 2007.

In July 2010, a Union County jury found McCord guilty of one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony; four counts of criminal sexual assault, all Class 1 felonies; one count of child pornography, a Class 3 felony; and eight counts of unlawful possession of weapons by a Felon, all Class 3 felonies.

Presiding Judge Mark Boie handed down the sentence Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Union County Circuit Court in Jonesboro.

McCord was arrested in December 2007 as the Jonesboro Police Department and Illinois State Police executed a search warrant at his home.

The case was prosecuted by the Illinois attorney general’s office with assistance from the Union County state’s attorney’s office.
