Fire safety event held in Jonesboro

Fire safety and the use of smoke detectors took center stage at an event which was held last Saturday morning at the fire station in Jonesboro. The event was the first of its kind to be sponsored by Smoke Detectors for Every Child, a new program organized by local resident David Waun, who is a dispatcher with the Union County Sheriff's Office. Free smoke detectors were made available to children who were in need of one. Fire safety education also was highlighted. Waun said that Saturday's event was a success. Future fire safety events are being planned in Union County, Waun added.
