Elwin "Burnie" Rogers

Elwin "Burnie" Rogers, 77, of Jonesboro, died at 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2015 at his home. He was born Sept. 13, 1938 in Jonesboro, the son of George William and Wanda Etta Wilson Rogers. He married Nancy Ramsey on April 12, 1972 in the Kornthal Church in Jonesboro. She preceded him in death on July 23, 2015.

He is survived by his daughter, Vanessa (Tracy) Wilson of Mulkeytown; two grandchildren, Kaleb (Brandy) Wilson and Tyler Wilson; one great grandchild, Tristan Lee Wilson; one brother, Omer Rogers of Ware; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy Rogers; one brother and two sisters.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, he was a member of the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna. Burnie was retired from Lewis Bakery and later retired from the Union County Highway Department.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Bill Littrell officiating. Interment was be in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Navy Funeral Honor Detail. Friends may call after noon and until the service hour at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
