Dwight D. Kiefer

Dwight D. Kiefer, 61, of Cobden, died at 9:47 p.m., Jan. 13, 2015 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. He was born May 26, 1953 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the son of Troy S. and Mildred Glaub Kiefer. He married Karen Flamm on Feb. 5, 2005 in the St. Joseph Church in Cobden.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Kiefer of Cobden; his children, Robert J. Kiefer of Perryville, Missouri, Carrie A. (Steven) Santel of Ellisville, Missouri; Karen's children, Sarah L. Garner and Emily L. Garner both of Cobden; two grandchildren, William R. Santel and Owen D. Santel; mother, Mildred Kiefer of Perryville, Missouri, brothers and sisters, Michael (Wilma) Kiefer and Troy Joe (Anna) Kiefer all of Perryville, Missouri, Kenneth (Karen) Kiefer of Jackson, Missouri, Louise Finger of Perryville, Missouri, Daniel (Darlene) Kiefer of Perryville, Missouri,  Mary (Rick) Hoehn of Perryville, Missouri; brother in law, Bill Fischer of Perryville, Missouri; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Dwight Kiefer; father, Troy S. Kiefer; two sisters, Juanita Kiefer and Kathy Fischer; and brother in law, Roy Finger.        

He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna. He retired on July 5, 2010 after 26 years of service from Procter and Gamble as a line technician. He loved woodworking, working in his shop, yard work and spending time with his grandchildren. Dwight enjoyed listening to music, watching football, pampering his beloved pets and most of all taking care of other people.

The family would like to thank the doctors and medical team at the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis, Missouri for their compassion and care during Dwight's illness.

Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Friday Jan. 16, 2015 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.  The rosary was said at 7 p.m. by Father Federico Higuera.  Visitation was at 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at Young & Sons Funeral Home in Perryville, Missouri.  The funeral mass was at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Perryville, Missouri with Father Milton Ryan officiating.  Interment was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Perryville, Missouri. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church.
