Dr. Dusan Skofic

Dr. Dusan Skofic, 92, of Anna, died at 7:20 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

He was born on July 21, 1917, in Yugoslavia.

He married Christine Bergman on April 3, 1948, in Germany. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2000.

Dr. Skofic served in the Yogoslavian army during World War II and was captured by German forces. He spent two years in a Nazi concentration camp and escaped along with his future wife, Christine, in 1944. Dr. Skofic was a physician at the Choate Mental Health & Development Center in Anna for over 40 years. He resided at Parkway Manor in Marion for nearly 15 years.

He is survived by his dear friends, Dolly Hopkins of Buncombe and Betty Sue Elkins of Anna.

In honor of his wishes he will be cremated. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, today, at the Anna Cemetery. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to PAWS in Anna or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
