Dorris Lee Garner

Mr. Dorris Lee Garner, age 84 of Cobden, died at 1:45 a.m. Sunday March 14, 2010 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. He was born July 15, 1925 in Cobden, the son of Lloyd R. and Edna Earl Clutts Garner. He married Grace Elizabeth Elder on November 16, 1946 in Cobden.

Dorris is survived by his wife, Grace of Cobden; two sons, Roger (Sandy) Garner of Lick Creek, and Steve Garner of Buncombe; one daughter Donna (Richard) Black of Cobden; four grandchildren, Tami Ury, Rick (Courtney) Garner, Sarah Garner, and Emily Garner; two great grandchildren, Presli and Grayson Garner; one brother, Harold Garner of St. Augustine, FL; one nephew, Doug Garner of St. Augustine, FL; other relatives and many friends. Dorris was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kay Ann Garner; and one brother Jarol Garner.

Dorris was a teacher and administrator for five years at Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake. He served as superintendent of the Cobden Unit School District # 166 for 25 years. Dorris served in the US Army during World War II and was a member and deacon of the Shiloh Baptist Church for many years.

Funeral Services for Mr. Dorris Lee Garner will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday March 17, 2010 at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Rev. Clifford Heil and Rev. Gregory Schmidt officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery with military honors by Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Illinois National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team in Marion. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday March 16 at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden. Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church; envelopes will be available at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.
