Dongola softball coach confident as season nears

First-year Dongola High School softball coach Russ Marsh has confidence heading into a new season.

“Looking at our schedule, hopefully we’ll win some games,” Marsh said. “We should be better than last year.”

The Lady Demons were winless last season.

“We should be all right,” Marsh said. “We’re building. We’re going to use this as a learning year because we’ve got some good 8th graders coming up.”

Seniors on the roster are pitcher/third baseman Maria Walker, second baseman DaCota Theis and  outfielder/infielder Etta Ead.

Senior Erica Sharp suffered a broken leg and will be lost for the season but should return in the spring.

Sophomores on the roster are shortstop/pitcher Jodie Schultz, first baseman Emily Terbrak, outfielder Dominique Schauer and pitcher/infielder Machaela Penrod.

Freshmen include center fielder Katie Latham and catcher/infielder Haley Fuller.

“We’ve got a lot of youngsters,” Marsh said. “We won’t get discouraged. We’ve got to keep our kids positive.”

The Lady Demons open their season at home against Cobden Friday, Aug. 28.
