Dongola boys tie for first places at Crab Orchard

The Dongola High School boys’ basketball team finished in a three-way tie for first place with host Crab Orchard and Pope County at the Crab Orchard Turkey Tournament Saturday, Nov. 24.

Each team finished with a 4-1 tournament record.

Dongola 58, Hardin County 50: Darius Schauer scored 18 points to lead the Demons to Saturday’s win. Tyler Eddleman added 16 points.

Bradley Ralls scored 10 points, Brock Patterson 8 and Alex Zeschke 6.

Hardin County led 16-11 after one quarter and 25-22 at halftime. Dongola fought back to within three, 40-37, heading into the final quarter. The Demons outscored the Cougars 21-10 in the fourth quarter.

Freshman guard Kyle Cox sustained a broken foot  in the game and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Dongola 61, Crab Orchard 57: Eddleman scored 20 points to lead the Demons to the win Friday, Nov. 23.

Schauer added 16 points, Ralls 12, Patterson 9 and Zeschke 4.

Dongola led 20-14 after the first quarter and 31-27 at halftime. The Demons had a 49-43 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Pope County 56, Dongola 51: Eddleman led the Demons’ effort in the loss, scoring 19 points Wednesday, Nov. 21.

Ralls added 13 points, Patterson and Schauer each had 7, Zeschke 4 and Dalen Treat 1.

Pope County led 10-8 after one quarter. Dongola fought back to take a 27-26 halftime lead. The Trojans led 45-43 heading into the final period.

Dongola 62, Elverado 54: Eddleman scored 24 points to lead the Demons to the win Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Patterson added 15 points, Schauer 12, Cox 6 and Zeschke 5.

Dongola led 17-7 after one quarter and 29-23 at halftime. The Demons led 45-35 heading into the final period.

 Dongola 69, Joppa 38: The Demons built a 14-4 first quarter lead and led 33-16 at halftime in the opening round win Monday, Nov. 19.

Eddleman led Dongola’s scoring with 14 points. Patterson and Zeschke added 12 points each.

Ralls and Cox scored 8 each, Schauer 7, Donnie Gibson 4 and Treat and Caleb Theis 2 each.

Eddleman, Schauer and Patterson were each named to the all-tournament team.

Dongola is scheduled to play Monday at home against Christian Agape.
