Dongola baseball hopes to improve on fall season

The Dongola High School  baseball team only recorded one win last fall, finishing 1-11.

Demon baseball head coach Jeff Bunerkempe would like to see some improvement in that area.

“Our goal is to win a few more  games and get better as the season goes on,” Bunerkempe said. “We’re trying to build a little more stability (in the program).”

Seniors on the team are catcher John Samples and pitcher Chris Cohin.

The lone junior is outfielder/backup catcher Darin Gibson.

Sophomores expected to contribute are shortstop Jordan Eads, third baseman/second baseman/center fielder Tyler Thompson, third baseman Michael Petty, second baseman/outfielder Jon Sims and first baseman Justin Samples.

The only freshman is outfielder Darius Schauer.

“None of our positions are set,” Bunerkempe said. “We’re still rotating them around.”

Bunerkempe said he’s still actively recruiting players to add to his nine-player roster.

“Hopefully, it will be a good  season,” he said.

The Demons open their season Thursday, today, at home against Century.
