Dawn Marie Lackey, 92, of Anna, died at 9:23 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015 in the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. She was born July 31, 1923 in Olmsted, the daughter of Nello Everett Sr. and Edna M. Calvin Bankson. She married George W. Lackey on Nov. 26, 1948 in Piggott, Arkansas.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, George W. Lackey of Anna; three daughters, Jeri (Gary) Knupp of Jonesboro, Ann (Dennis) York of Anna, and Pam Schlenker of Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Richard) York, Chris (Kris) Knupp, Elizabeth Knupp, Dennis Lee (Debbie) York, Cassie (Zack) Cohen, and Kim Schlenker; eight great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wanda Ervin, two infant sisters, Joyce and Thelma Bankson; three brothers, Jim Bill Bankson, Nello Everett Bankson Jr. and George A. Bankson; and one son in law, Donnie Schlenker.
Earlier in her career Dawn worked as a teacher and later she and her husband owned and operated the Dixie BBQ in Jonesboro for many years. She was a life member of the Eastern Star and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.
Graveside services were at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015 in the Anna City Cemetery with John Shelton officiating. Interment was in the Anna City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Hospital Auxiliary. Envelopes will be available in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home and at the Cemetery.
