Daisy Troop honors Olive Whiting

Daisy Troop No. 8597 visited the Whiting residence in Anna on Monday, March 12. Monday was the 100th birthday of the Girl Scouts and the Daisy Troop recognized past Girl Scout leader Olive Whiting.

Mrs. Whiting who is 91 years old, started as a Girl Scout field secretary in Gary, Ind., in 1942 and 1943. Then she was a field secretary in Madison, Wis., from 1943 to 1945.

In 1951, Mrs. Whiting started one of the first Girl Scout troops in Union County as a Girl Scout leader in Dongola.

Members of Daisy Troop No. 8597 gathered around Mrs. Whiting and made the Friendship Circle and did the Girl Scout Promise. As part of the ceremony Daisy leader Melissa Waun pinned the Daisy Insignia Tab on Mrs Whiting and co-leader Amanda Eddings pinned her with the Girl Scout 100th birthday pin. The Daisy girls listened as Mrs. Whiting told stories about her past experiences with the Girl Scouts.

Daisy Troop No. 8597 will be registering Mrs. Whiting into the Girl Scouts Alumnae Association and as a adult member of the troop.

Daisy Troop No. 8597 thanked Mrs.Whiting for all that she has done with the Girl Scouts and look forward to seeing her again. Troop members agreed that Mrs. Whiting is an inspiration to them.

Those present for the special ceremony were Melissa Waun, Mrs. Whiting, Amanda Eddings, Baley Robinson, Kloe Dallas, Evie Eddings, Madilyn Robinson, Elaine Willmore, Megan Clark, Angel Wiseman, Emilie Mowery, Megan Wright, David Waun, Avery Osman, Sydney Waun and Kiley Dailey.
