Cox named MVP as Dongola wins tournament
<p class="p1">Dongola won its own round robin Christmas Tournament in high school boys’ basketball with a 3-0 record.</p><p class="p1">Dongola earned the tournament title with a win on Monday, Dec. 28.</p><p class="p1">The Demons’ Kyle Cox was named as the tourney’s most valuable player. Teammate Alex Zeschke was named to the all-tournament team. After the tournament, Cox now has 1,740 points in his high school career.</p><p class="p1"><strong>Dongola 84, Pope County 47:</strong> Cox led the way with 35 points and 6 rebounds for the Demons.</p><p class="p1">Zeschke added 27 points and 4 rebounds. Dylan Simmerman had 7 points and 5 rebounds. </p><p class="p1">Dillon Gilliland added 6 points, Micheal Garrett 4, Caleb Theis 3 and Dalen Treat 2.</p><p class="p1">Dongola pulled ahead 16-11 after one quarter and 38-25 at the half. The Demons led 60-38 headed into the final period.</p><p class="p1">Dongola, 8-5, is scheduled to play Thursday, today, at Hardin County. </p>
