County highway department subject of investigation

An investigation is underway into possible misconduct involving a Union County department.

Union County State's Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds issued the following statement Jan. 16 regarding the matter:

"Earlier this month, the Union County State's Attorney's Office received credible evidence that misconduct may have occurred in connection with the Union County Highway Department.

"The State's Attorney's Office, along with the Union County Sheriff's Office, immediately referred this matter to the Illinois State Police and requested an investigation by that agency.

"An investigation is ongoing and I have full confidence that the Illinois State Police will conduct a complete and impartial inquiry."
