Community comes together to help support Cobden woman who is battling cancer

<p class="p1">A baseball and softball tournament, along with a home run derby, are being planned Saturday, July 25, at Cobden School. The rain date for the event is scheduled Aug. 1.</p><p class="p1">The events, billed as “Strike Out Cancer with Andria,” are being held to support Andria Chapman of Cobden. </p><p class="p1">The day’s activities are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. with a round robin baseball and softball tournament. A home run derby is planned at midday.</p><p class="p1">The day also is scheduled to feature raffles, a silent auction, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, and much more.</p><p class="p1">At approximately 12:30 p.m., a home run derby is scheduled to begin. A tribute to Andria also is planned at that time.</p><p class="p1">The derby is open to boys under the age of 13 and girls under 12. The entry fee is $5.</p><p class="p1">Andria is married and has two children. She was diagnosed with a rare form of advanced ovarian cancer. She will be traveling back and forth to The Cancer Center of America in Zion, which is near Chicago.</p><p class="p1">Organizers of Saturday’s events are working to raise funds to help with the cost of travel, for medical expenses and for the loss of employment during treatment.</p><p class="p1">“It would be nice to have a good showing of community support during this time,” organizers stated in a news release.</p><p class="p1">“Come have lunch, watch a game or the derby, bid on an item or two and show how our little communities rally around Andria and come together in times of need for each other.”</p>
